
Stoner was born in Toledo, Ohio. She was trained at the O'Connell Dance Studio in Holland, Ohio and the Margaret O'Brien Modeling Studio. Stoner started acting in 1999, when she went to the International Modeling and Talent Association. Consequently, she received several awards for acting, modeling, and dance. .
In 2002, Stoner became the co-host of the Disney Channel's Mike's Super Short Show along with Michael Alan Johnson, an infomercial segment regarding forthcoming Disney releases.
After choreography training in Los Angeles, Stoner famously appeared as a background dancer in the music video for Missy Elliott's "Work It" and "Gossip Folks", as well as Eminem's "Just Lose It" and the lesser known "No Tengo Dinero" by the Kumbia Kings. She danced with a dancing group called the JammXKids between 2003 and 2006. She quit the group in early 2006 due to scheduling conflicts, but continues to work with the individual kids in different jobs. She was also one of the dancers in the special features for the Shark Tale DVD. Stoner and her friend are teaching kids 6-14 to dance in a dance studio.
In 2003 and 2005, she appeared as one of the twelve Baker children (Sarah) in the successful comedies Cheaper by the Dozen and Cheaper by the Dozen 2. She has also appeared in several television shows aimed at the pre-teen market, including The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, That's So Raven and Drake and Josh.
In 2005 Alyson recorded a cover version of the song "Baby It's You" by JoJo. She is currently planning to take vocal lessons in order to focus on transitioning her style from "kiddie-pop to a richer tone and texture."
In 2006 she had a small film role in Step Up as Channing Tatum's younger sister. Stoner will be starring in the movie Alice Upside Down! Based on the best selling Alice series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. She currently provides the voice of Isabella in the new Disney Channel animated series Phineas and Ferb.
Continuing with dance, she also regularly teaches a hip-hop dance class at the Millennium Dance Complex. She is also the "dance editor" for KEWL Magazine. Stoner also recently hosted a global fan summit on Amazon.com with good friend and Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus. Stoner has finished filming her latest movie, the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock, along with the Jonas Brothers. Her next film will be Ghosttown. Stoner is currently working on a "top-secret" "Alyson Stoner Project" described as "a dance video hybrid - melding many styles of entertainment into one package." It has a tentative release date for this summer and is being directed by Kevin Schmidt, her co-star from Cheaper by the Dozen. In the summer of 2008, she will appear in the Disney Channel Games along with the Jonas Brothers, Kyle Massey, Chelsea Staub, Jennifer Stone, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, and others.
